Madden Raparees G.F.C Notes W/C 10.04.2017
Membership for the 2017 season is now due and can be paid to any member of the club's Executive Committee. Membership will remain at £20 for adult members and £10 for juvenile members. The club has renewed its initiatives from 2016 with the family cap remaining on membership. It is aimed at families with multiple children, here parents and children will be able to register for a total of £60. We will once again be insisting that at least one parent must be registered alongside a child and this is deemed compulsory for 2017. Finally we will be implementing a strict 'No Pay = No Play' approach to the membership this year and this has come directly as a result of increased pressure from the governing body regarding playing insurance at both Adult and Underage levels.
Healthy Hearts Screening
We as a club have decided to put the feelers out to determine if there would be interest in once again facilitating a Heart Screening for Adult and Juvenile players within the club along with members of the wider Madden community who are perhaps not even associated with the organisation. If you or someone you know would be interested in attending such an event please contact Brendan Vallely on 07774 691296.
Armagh Senior Cup
On Sunday afternoon Madeen Raparees welcomed Crossmaglen Rangers to Raparee Park in what would be the first competitive fixture between the two sides on Madden’s home turf. The first half was an extremely entertaining affair with the spectators getting value for their entrance fee. It was Kyle Morgan who kicked off the scoring for the hosts with a point from play before the Rangers responded with a point from Tony Kernan. Jamie Sheridan soon followed to regain the lead for the Raparees. Crossmaglen swiftly responded with 1-01 from play before points from Kyle Morgan and Conor Grimley reduced the defecit to a single point. Tony Kernan scored another point from play for the visitors however two free kicks from Conor Grimley including a spectacular long range effort brought the game level with ten minutes of the first half remaining. This would be as close as Madden would get the Rangers for the remainder of the game as they proceeded to kick 1-03 without reply before the interval. Half Time Score Madden Raparees 0-06 to Crossmaglen Rangers 2-06.
Crossmaglen came out for the second half and showed that ruthless streak that had been the backbone of their recent success, they scored a further 1-05 in succession to seal the victory. Madden with a mountain to climb did not stop working though and were rewarded with two Conor Grimley points from play either side of a Crossmaglen point. Kyle Morgan then got in on the act with two points in a row from play himself. It was not long until Crossmaglen had these cancelled out with two from play themselves. A final point from Caolan Vallely would be Madden’s last of the day, much like the first half the visitors finished the strongest and there was another late flurry of scores, 3-02 to be precise to leave the Full Time Score: Madden Raparees 0-11 to Crossmaglen Rangers 6-17.
The lads will now knuckle back down to training having narrowly missed out on qualification through to the knockout stages of this competition. They will begin preprations for their hugely anticipated derby fixture in the first round of the league at home to neighbours Ballymacnab on Sunday 29th April.
All at Madden Raparees G.F.C. would like to extend their sincerest sympathies to Anne Vallely and the Valentine family from Loughlinisland, Co. Down following the death of Anne’s Husband Brendan. Brendan will be fondly remembered around Madden by all who ever had the pleasure of being in his company, he loved the community of Madden dearly and enjoyed his time down here whether it be in Raparee Park or on the Madden Road at the Bullets. May he Rest In Peace.
